Volvo app gives drivers remote control of their vehicles

A new mobile phone application means that drivers of Volvo cars can stay in touch with their vehicle even when it is parked.

By taking advantage of the new app, motorists can operate a remote door lock via their iPhone or Android-powered mobile handset, or use the car locator function to establish through GPS technology exactly where the car is in relation to their current position.

In addition, drivers can check dashboard details via the app, meaning motorists can establish how much fuel they have in the tank no matter where they are.

Stefan Jacoby, president and chief executive officer of Volvo Car Corporation, said that it is "only logical" that motorists should maintain control of their vehicle at all times.

"We design cars around people's needs and lifestyle. Creating an intuitive and ergonomically optimised driver's environment is part of our aim to offer a feeling of relaxed control," he said.
