Volkswagen cars have received another commendation as the new Polo has been named Best Small Car at the 2010 Fleet World awards.

It is yet another award for the car, which was named the World Car of the Year at the prestigious New York Auto Show in April.

The chairman of the judges and Fleet World editor Steve Moody said in presenting the award: "The Volkswagen Polo is a small car with a big car personality.

"Downsizing customers will never feel shortchanged thanks to its excellent interior space and superb build quality."

He went on to say that with excellent efficiency and a strong engine, a supermini car had never been so good.

Volkswagen's Vincent Kinner commented that the Polo perfectly represented the company's core values of quality, practicality, safety and value for money.

The Polo also currently holds the title of What Car? magazine's Supermini of the Year.
