Residents of Kochi, India, have been surprised with a new addition to their area - the region's first Smart car.

The Express Buzz reported that jeweller Joy Alukkas purchased the vehicle while in London and imported it to the west coast of India "just for a fancy".

However, he said that the quirky vehicle soon "won my heart" and he began using it as a personal car.

Mr Alukkas hailed the vehicle's three cylinders, "comfortable and stylish" design and small size - for ease of parking - as its greatest advantages.

Earlier this month, the manufacturer noted that the new Smart fortwo urbanstyle is a "contemporary and sporty" option for city dwellers.

The new vehicle is based on the 2010 passion model and will be limited to a UK production run of 70 turbocharged 84bhp units and 160 of the 71bhp models.

Among its many cutting-edge features are an advanced integrated audio and navigation system, incorporating a touch screen.ADNFCR-2576-ID-19662355-ADNFCR
