Renault has announced pricing and specification details for its new Kadjar off-roader – the sister model to the immensely popular Nissan Qashqai.

The Kadjar slots above the compact Captur ‘crossover’ in the Renault range and will be available with two diesel engines and one petrol unit at launch, with prices starting from £17,995. Buyers can also choose between two and four-wheel drive models, while the more affordable diesel will also be available with the option of an automatic gearbox.

Buyers opting for this 1.5-litre diesel engine will also benefit from free annual car tax, thanks to CO2 emissions of 99g/km (when fitted with 16 or 17-inch summer tyres), while official economy of 74.3mpg means that fuel top-ups should be few and far between. Least economical, meanwhile, is the turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol, which returns a still reasonable 48.7mpg when fitted with all-season tyres or 19-inch alloy wheels and will cost £110 to tax each year.

Standard kit on the Kadjar includes a digital radio, air conditioning, Bluetooth, front and rear electric windows and a seven-inch digital speedometer display. Dynamique trim on the other hand adds 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, sat nav, automatic lights and wipers and an upgraded sound system.

Next in line is Dynamique S Nav, which includes 19-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, leather and cloth seats, driver’s seat height adjustment and electric, heated wing mirrors. Top of the range Signature Nav trim on the other hand includes powerful full LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a BOSE sound system and cloth and leather upholstery.

The new Kadjar goes on sale in July with the first deliveries taking place from September. Prices start from £17,995 for the entry-level petrol model and rise to £26,295 for the range-topping four-wheel drive diesel car.
