Skoda has built an enviable reputation for its combination of quality and value for money. Now, buyers of the brand’s Rapid Spaceback compact estate are set to enjoy up to £1,905 off, with no compromise on desired trim level.

The practical model now starts from just £13,500 – £1,335 less than the previous entry point into the range. The top-level SE Sport 1.6-litre TDI model can now be had for £18,300, representing a saving of £1,635.

Kicking off the range is the 89bhp 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol model, which makes up for its leisurely 11.2 second 0-62mph time with strong claimed fuel economy of 60.1mpg and road tax of just £20 per year.

The greatest saving to be had, however, is on the 123bhp 1.4-litre TSI petrol, which is now available from £16,390. This mid-range model provides a decent blend of performance and economy, being capable of 58.9mpg, despite getting from 0-62mph in a respectable 8.9 seconds. It sits one car tax band higher, meaning annual bills of £30.

The cleanest model, however, is exempt from vehicle tax, with CO2 emissions of just 94g/km. Equipped with a 1.4-litre diesel, it’s best suited to high-mileage users, thanks to impressive combined fuel economy of 78.5mpg.

The Spaceback’s three trim levels are unaltered, with buyers able to choose from S, SE Tech and SE Sport. Selected models are available with the VW Group’s DSG twin-clutch automatic gearbox.
