Peugeot has announced that its new RCZ passenger car will go on sale from spring 2010.

The compact coupe has retained a number of unique style points from its concept model, including a double bubble roof and aluminium roof arches that highlight the front windscreen.

Peugeot's RCZ will also be the first car from the manufacturer that does not use the traditional numbering system featuring a central zero or double zero, such as the 307 or 4007.

In terms of performance, the RCZ offers CO2 emissions of just 139g per kilometre, with a reduced body weight and improved aerodynamics to reduce drag.

Three engines will be available for buyers to choose from, including 1.6-litre THP 200bhp, a 1.6 litre THP 156bhp and 2.0 litre HDi FAP 163bhp engines all of which are available with six-speed manual gearboxes.

Each of the engines meets the Euro 5 emissions standard, with the 1.6-litre 156bhp engine the only one available with an automatic gearbox.

Peugeot is set to show off its environmental credentials at the 63rd Frankfurt Motor Show, due to take place next month.
