Peugeot has picked up the title of City Car Manufacturer of the Year at the GreenFleet Awards.

Held last night (October 11th), the accolades are handed out to companies that seek to reduce the environmental impact associated with transport.

The car maker beat off competition from rival manufacturers Fiat, Volkswagen and Mini in order to claim the title.

Phil Robson, Peugeot fleet and used vehicle director, said: "These awards salute our considerable efforts to provide ever-enhanced products that respond to the growing demand for environmentally-able vehicles."

He added the company has been at the forefront of green motoring and pointed to the success of diesel-electric HYbrid4 and new small petrol engines.

Indeed, over 15,000 orders have been placed in the last three months for the Peugeot 208, which is lighter, bigger and more aerodynamic than its predecessor.

Colin Boyton, marketing manager for GreenFleet, labelled the 208 as a "cracking" car.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801468684-ADNFCR
