Car insurance company RIAS has been named as one of the top two providers in the UK.

The firm notched its success in a poll of 20,000 Auto Express readers for the 2009 Driver Power survey.

It means that RIAS has managed to retain its position from last year, this time scoring high ratings for helpfulness and product performance.

RIAS managing director Janet Connor said it was a "fantastic accolade" to be named as a top-two insurer.

She added that the survey showed that consumers now "value the total experience when dealing with their car insurance provider, rather than just focusing on price".

Meanwhile, a car insurance specialist recently claimed that many people are paying over the odds for their cover because they are using online price aggregators.

Adrian Flux urged motorists to instead speak to experts who know the market, as one-to-one advice can be the best way to get a cheaper deal.
