Audi has opened order books for an exclusive new A8 model – the Edition 21. Created to celebrate the big German luxury car’s 21st birthday, 121 Edition 21s will be built, offering added luxury and style over the standard car.

Taking cues from the S8 super saloon, the new model may do without the range-topping A8’s fire-breathing petrol engine – featuring a 3.0-litre diesel motor instead – but it does gain a sharp body kit along with a plush interior and does without the S8’s price tag too. Prices start at £72,525 for the standard wheelbase model with extra luxurious long-wheelbase versions available from £76,490.

It’s on the inside where Audi has focused most of its attention, with buyers able to choose between black leather with red stitching and brown leather with black stitching. Helping to boost the comfort rating, are supportive sports seats with 22-way electric adjustment and added back and side support along with a high-end sat nav system, Bose speakers and plenty of phone and internet connectivity options.

Striking Edition 21 models will also feature a sports styling package on the outside, with unique front and rear bumpers, new 20-inch titanium-coloured alloy wheels and dark tinted windows for those in the rear seats. Helping to give the Edition 21 added visual clout are powerful adaptive LED headlights that turn in conjunction with the wheel to light the road ahead and dynamic indicator displays, with the indicators producing a pulse of light that points in the direction of travel.

Under the bonnet is a 258bhp 3.0-litre diesel engine mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and Audi’s Quattro four-wheel drive system. This punchy motor is enough to power the A8 to 62mph in a scant 5.9 seconds, with official fuel economy standing at a strong 47.9mpg.

The Audi A8 Edition 21 is available to order now with the first models arriving with customers in November.
