Kia unveils new Sorento 4x4

Kia has revealed images of the new Sorento 4x4, which replaces the current model that has been on sale since 2010. The Sorento is an affordable, large, five and seven-seater off-roader which offers a practical interior, and limited off-road ability.

The new model has a bolder look than its predecessor and has grown 95mm in length and 80mm in wheelbase, helping to create a more spacious cabin and larger boot; headroom and legroom has also increased across all three rows of seats, while the boot has swelled from 515 litres to 605 litres with the front five seats in use.

Kia claims that the new model will also feel much more luxurious, with higher quality interior materials, including a soft-touch dashboard. The interior has been inspired by Swiss watch design, with its sleek, simple layout. With a longer wheelbase and extra soundproofing, the car will provide a smoother and quieter ride than before. Thanks to its stronger body, handling should be improved, while crash safety should jump too.

The car will be available with two engines in the UK: a 2.4-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel, with the diesel expected to be the bestseller.

The new Sorento will be available with four cameras, which help to give a full view around the car when parking, and a powered tailgate, which can open automatically when the key is sensed, making it easy to load the boot when your hands are full of shopping.

Safety kit for the Sorento will include adaptive cruise control, a lane departure warning system and several systems which warn the driver of objects in their blind spots.

The new Kia Sorento is set for its European premiere at the 2014 Paris Motor Show on October 2.
