Jeep has announced pricing for its Renegade small SUV, the first model to be jointly developed by Jeep and Fiat. This compact off-roader will be available from under £17,000, with prices rising up to nearly £28,000.

Jeep is describing this new model as perfect for both the city and countryside, offering best-in-class space, strong on-road handling and impressive off-road capabilities. The car has also received a top five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating.

Models range from front-wheel drive 1.6-litre petrol examples with 109bhp to an automatic 168bhp four-wheel drive diesel version. Six engines will be available along with four specification levels, and the option of front and four-wheel drive versions, giving buyers plenty of choice. The nine-speed automatic transmission is also a first for this class of car.

Top-of-the-range Trailhawk trim features dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and steering wheel, leather upholstery, rear parking sensors, 17-inch alloy wheels, and underbody protection to allow the car to cope with off-road antics.

Meanwhile, entry level Sport models include air conditioning, a digital radio, Bluetooth, 16-inch alloy wheels and remote central locking. Longitude cars gain 17-inch wheels, cruise control, front fog lights and a six-speaker audio system. Limited trim adds 18-inch wheels, heated front seats and steering wheel, leather seats and rear parking sensors.

A special ‘Opening Edition’ model will be available at launch, just 200 of which will be made. These Opening Edition cars will be available in white or orange with a black roof with a unique interior design and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Order books for this new model open on January 6, with the first cars arriving in mid-February. Prices start from £16,995 and rise to a substantial £27,995.
