Honda has announced prices and specifications for its new Jazz, which takes up the same amount of space as a typical supermini, but offers a much more spacious cabin and boot.

The all-new car, which goes on sale in the UK in September, will be available from £13,495 and comes with a 1.3-litre petrol motor and the option of a ‘CVT’ automatic gearbox for £1,100. The new Ford Fiesta competitor will be sold in four trim levels with prices starting at £13,495 for entry-level S trim and rising to £16,815 for the automatic EX model.

The entry-level S model features the same 101bhp petrol engine as the rest of the rang mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, which boasts the power of the previous Jazz’s 1.4-litre engine while matching the old 1.2-litre engine’s claimed economy.

Standard kit includes air conditioning, cruise control with a speed limiter function and automatic headlights along with automatic emergency braking, which should prevent many low-speed bumps. Next in line is SE trim, which starts at £14,595 and includes front and rear parking sensors, electric heated wing mirrors and 15-inch alloy wheels plus safety kit including lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beam function.

SE models also gain a seven-inch touchscreen media system that is compatible with Android phones and tablets, and offers the ability to browse the internet. Range-topping EX trim, meanwhile, costs £15,715 upwards, adding climate control, upgraded speakers, 16-inch alloy wheels and front fog lights.

Despite all models sharing the same engine, economy varies from 55.4mpg to 56.5mpg for manual models, while the CVT automatic returns between 57.6mpg and 61.4mpg.
