Some 30 green transport schemes are to receive funding from the government.

In total, £113 million of grants are being allocated as part of the second phase of the Local Sustainable Transport Fund, which has £560 million to give out to bodies.

Transport minister Norman Baker - who is also Liberal Democrat MP for Lewes - said: "The schemes we are funding today will benefit communities from Devon to Durham by cutting carbon emissions, reducing congestion and stimulating economic growth in these areas."

He added this promise of funds highlights the government's commitment to growing green transport initiatives.

Among the schemes to receive backing is Smarter Travel Slough, which will look to improve air quality in the area by cutting down on traffic during rush hour.

Some 29 local authorities across eight regions have been given money and it will see public transport hubs created and a better cycling infrastructure implemented.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801370468-ADNFCR
