Ford unveils brand new S-Max people carrier

Ford’s original S-Max people carrier broke the mould by being just as enjoyable for the driver as it was comfortable for passengers young and old in the rear seats. It also offered sharp styling and a dashboard that was a rung above your average MPV in terms of quality.
The second-generation model that Ford has just announced looks set to build on its predecessor’s attributes, with precise handling around corners promised, along with a more premium feeling interior and suitably sleek new exterior styling.
This new people carrier will make an appearance at the Paris motor show next month and is likely to appear in UK showrooms next summer. Prices are expected to start from around £25,000. The S-Max will be available in five and seven-seat form with rear passengers benefitting from a dedicated rear seat air conditioning system with its own controls.
Two petrol engines and three diesels are available; petrol models comprise of a turbocharged1.5-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre unit with 237bhp while the diesel motor comes in 118bhp, 148bhp and 178bhp forms. The 2.0-litre petrol comes with an automatic gearbox while the two more powerful diesels will be available with dual-clutch automatic gearboxes plus the option of four-wheel drive.
Meanwhile the interior has been pared down with fewer buttons and a new eight-inch touchscreen media system takes their place, which can handle a variety of voice commands. The car also now features an electric handbrake, which frees up extra storage space. Head to the back of the car and the middle three seats fold, slide and recline individually and there is the option of specifying two seats which fold out of the boot floor.
