Ford investigates engine problems

Ford has announced that it is continuing its 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine safety investigation.

The manufacturer is now aware of seven separate incidents of a fire breaking out possibly due to a fault in the engine, which is used in the Focus and Mondeo – two of its most popular saloon cars.

Ford has not yet determined the cause of the problem, but has not issued any vehicle recalls so far and it is now widening its investigation across Europe.

However, the US manufacturer did recall nearly 90,000 Escapes and Fusions last week.

A spokesman said that Ford is conducting an "extensive engineering analysis" for that problem, which currently is based on the idea that fluids are leaking from the engine and combusting when coming into contact with the hot exhaust components.

It is not all bad news for Ford's engineers, however. The company recently released the all-new Kuga which features a new 1.6-litre EcoBoost 150PS engine.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801501869-ADNFCR
