Drivers warned of snowfall dangers

New and used car drivers are being warned of the dangers of heavy snowfall as Christmas approaches.

AA Insurance has seen many claims so far this winter as a result of the most recent cold snap.

The group is warning drivers of new and used cars that vehicles parked on the roadside are often in danger of being hit by others skidding out of control, and that failing to clear snow off a car before driving can be hazardous to other motorists.

"When there's snow and ice about, every piece of roadside furniture can become a major hazard. Out of control cars have struck lamp posts, walls, hedges, fences, signboards, barriers and bollards," the group added.

Last week, research conducted by Saga Motor Insurance found that the cold winter weather is a major concern for 48 per cent of UK motorists, many of whom are choosing to stay at home where possible rather than venture out into the snow and ice.ADNFCR-2576-ID-19523908-ADNFCR
