Budget brand Dacia may have only been selling cars in the UK since January 2013, but it has just sold its 50,000th car. The company, which has it roots in Romania, is now run as part of the Renault Group, and serves to offer maximum value for money for new car buyers courtesy of its ‘shockingly affordable’ pricing.

Of the 50,000 cars sold over the past two years, the top seller is the Sandero Stepway crossover – available from £8,395 – with 16,834 sales, closely followed by the Duster – which is hailed as the UK's most affordable SUV with prices starting at £9,495 – with 16,541 sales.

The Sandero hatchback, which holds the title of being the UK’s most affordable new car – available from £5,995 – found homes with 12,432 buyers, whilst the Logan MCV estate – available from £6,995 – was the least popular model with 4,193 sales.

With low prices being the major draw for customers, Dacia has proved popular amongst private buyers, with 96 per cent of the 9,849 purchases so far in 2015 coming from private individuals rather than company car users.

Talking about the company’s sales success, Andy Heiron, brand manager for Dacia UK said: “In a short space of time the brand has evolved and built a strong reputation that’s about much more than a low price point. We are now seeing lots of repeat business from customers moving into their second or even third Dacia.”

And it was in fact repeat customers who bought the 50,000th Dacia, a high-spec Duster Laureate off-roader, which they part-exchanged their previous Duster – one of the first to have been purchased in the UK – to buy.
