Owners of vintage used cars will be offered a brand-new type of coating for their car engines at a reduced price.

Zircotec will offer its new ceramic coating ZircoFlex at a 20 per cent discount to motorists attending the Classic Motor Show at the Birmingham NEC.

According to the company, the product has "dramatic heat reduction properties", with tests showing that it can reduce surface temperatures by up to 64 per cent.

"ZircoFlex offers a robust and durable solution for the thermal protection of vital engine and electrical components and can be easily applied to all types of classic road and race car," said Peter Whyman, sales and marketing director at the firm.

Drivers of used cars may also be interested to note Mr Whyman's claim that the product can deliver performance and efficiency gains while protecting car parts from excessive heat.

Earlier this month, the government launched a voluntary scheme for used cars to display easy-to-read labels showing fuel economy information.

Transport minister Sadiq Khan pointed out that running costs and environmental factors are important for buyers of used cars as he rolled out the system which is already in place for new vehicles.
