'Check tyres' ahead of car holidays

Families need to make sure they check the quality of their car's tyres before setting off for a holiday.

This is the warning being issued by Tyresafe, as it does not want people to get caught out when travelling to a location.

The body observed staycations are likely to be more popular than ever thanks to the mix of poor weather, budgetary pressures and the Olympic Games.

Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe, said: "We'd suggest that they put tyre checks at the top of the list so they can enjoy their holiday and arrive safely at their destination."

People should also look at the tread depth of their wheels, to make sure they fall within the legal requirements of 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre.

They also need to be sure they have the right air pressure, which is even more important if the car is carrying a full load.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801408152-ADNFCR
