Car insurance the most frequently switched form of cover

People are more likely to change their car insurance than any other form of cover, according to a new survey.

A study by price comparison site Go Compare has found that only nine per cent of drivers have never changed their car insurance provider.

This compares with 13 per cent who have always had the same home insurer, 16 per cent who have stuck with one energy firm and 24 per cent who have not changed their mortgage provider.

The survey went on to find that 40 per cent of motorists changed their car insurance for a better deal last year.

Many young drivers could be unaware of how they could cut the cost of insuring their used cars, not least as new insurance rules have come into force regarding gender.

The European Commission has banned the practice of offering female drivers lower premiums for being safer drivers than men and a Co-Operative Insurance survey published last month showed 60 per cent of 17 and 18-year-olds are unaware of this.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801521100-ADNFCR
