Audi SQ5 TDI gets ‘plus’ treatment

The Audi SQ5 TDI reinforces its status as a practical SUV with genuine sportscar pace as it becomes the latest ‘S’ model in the brand’s line-up to undergo the performance-intensifying 'plus' treatment.

With more power, more torque and more equipment than its standard counterpart, which is labelled as the first ever diesel-powered Audi S model and remains in the line-up, the new SQ5 TDI plus will be available to order later this year.

The biturbo V6 diesel engine at the heart of the SQ5 produces 335bhp by way of increased injection pressure. This results in 26bhp more power than the outdoing model.

Its peak torque has also increased by 50Nm to 700Nm, enabling it to accelerate from 0-62mph in a mere 5.1 seconds, before going on to reach a limited top speed of 155 mph.

Nevertheless, it can still achieve a combined fuel consumption figure of 42.8mpg while emitting 174g/km of CO2. Like all S models, the diesel-powered SQ5 TDI plus delivers its power to the road via the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. For the first time on a Q5 variant, a sports differential at the rear axle actively distributes the drive power between the wheels.

The plus is instantly recognisable thanks to its gloss black 21-inch cast aluminium Audi Sport wheels in 5-twin-spoke star design and an extended black gloss package, which includes the exterior mirror housings, door handles, roof edge spoiler and rear diffuser.

Inside, plus models are finished in diamond stitched Nappa leather upholstery, while the sliding rear bench seat comes as standard to increase variability and enlarge the luggage compartment, for when a little extra space is needed for long weekends away with the family.
