AA: Record number of callouts due to flooding

The AA had its busiest ever day in terms of flood-related call outs on Wednesday (November 21st).

Some 804 cars had to be rescued by 12:00 GMT as the extreme weather conditions caught a lot of motorists out and left them stranded in their vehicles.

The group was expecting to deal with around 13,000 breakdowns yesterday, which represents a significant increase on the Thursday average of 9.500.

Darron Burness, the AA's head of special operations, noted that flash flooding had taken its toll on already saturated land and so the situation was much worse than usual.

It highlights the need for motorists to be prepared before jumping behind the wheel of a car, as no one wants to get caught out.

Drivers are advised to increase their stopping distances and slow down to make sure their engines do not take on any water, as this could cause serious damage to the machinery.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801493833-ADNFCR
