The 500,000th Skoda Yeti has rolled off the production line in Kvasiny.

The milestone vehicle – a Yeti Monte Carlo in Corrida Red – was photographed with production line employees as it completed its journey through the plant.

The Czech carmaker celebrated its premiere in the SUV segment in 2009 with the Yeti and it quickly became one of the most successful vehicles in its class.

In 2013, the Yeti was completely redesigned, and has since been available in two individual design versions: the smart Yeti for the city, and the adventurous Yeti for the great outdoors.

Both versions of the Yeti are available with front- and all-wheel drive, and the modern 4x4 version has impressive off-road characteristics, offering maximum all-wheel functionality. The Yeti Monte Carlo has been available since 2014, extending the Yeti range with a sporty version.

Kvasiny is one of Skoda’s three production plants in the Czech Republic. In addition to the Yeti, the Superb and Superb Estate models currently run off the same assembly lines. In 2014, 166,200 Skoda vehicles were produced at Kvasiny.

Around 4,500 employees are currently employed at the Kvasiny plant, making it one of the largest industrial employers in the Hradec Králové region. The automobile factory was founded some 81 years ago, and Skoda cars have been manufactured there since 1947.

The plant is currently undergoing the most extensive modernisation and expansion project in the history of the site. Over the next few years, the production capacity of the East-Bohemian region is set to increase by up to 280,000 vehicles per year. There are also plans to create up to 1,300 additional jobs.

Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda board member for production and logistics, said: “Achieving a production figure of half a million Skoda Yetis is yet another milestone for the Kvasiny plant. Since its introduction, the Yeti has delighted customers in Europe and the international markets.

“We owe this success not least to the team in Kvasiny. It is with their technical skills, their expertise and the highest commitment that they essentially shape the excellent reputation of the plant. Over the next few years, Kvasiny’s production volume will increase significantly. SUV production is going to play an important role in this.”
