Winter tyres more effective in sub-7 degrees C weather

With the clocks set to go back at the end of October, the days are going to become shorter.

This signals that the start of the poor weather that can blight many car journeys in the UK.

For those keen to avoid being involved in an accident over the coming months, winter tyres may be a purchase worth considering.

Indeed, TyreSafe has revealed that the wheels are the best option for road users once the temperature drops below seven degrees C - which happened on 147 days between October 2011 and March 2012.

These statistics are even more damning because last winter was thought to be quite mild in comparison with the previous three.

Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe, said people should fit winter tyres from now until March 2013 in an effort to protect themselves.
