Volvo cars will have more focus on the driver in future, the firm has announced.

In a speech at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Volvo Cars president and chief executive officer Stefan Jacoby announced that the company wants to deliver a "distinct, individualist car experience".

He promised that Volvo cars will be a different kind of luxury carmaker, evolving with the modern world more quickly and more intelligently than any other manufacturer in the market.

The company will also continue its drive to lower carbon emissions, as demand for environmentally-friendly vehicles continues to grow.

"These conscious people don't want to compromise with the pure joy of owning a luxury car. Why should they? We are working on various initiatives offering the same full experience as a car with a traditional driveline," Mr Jacoby said.

Volvo Cars was celebrating recently as the S60 model was named Scottish Executive Car of the Year.
