Toyota has announced details of its new-look Prius, which delivers the lowest CO2 emissions in its class.

The new model will go on sale in March and Toyota has made several improvements to drive quality, steering feel and vehicle dynamics.

Having sold 20,000 Prius vehicles since its introduction in 2009, the manufacturer is confident the third-generation will appeal to drivers seeking improved efficiency and a lower environmental impact.

The new Prius boasts 89g per km CO2 emissions, coupled with a fuel economy of 72.4 mpg.

In addition to improvements to environmental performance, Toyota has also revamped the car's appearance with a redesigned front and new upholstery.

The new Prius is set to go on sale in March and will be priced at £21,350 for the base model.

The arrival of the new Prius will coincide with the launch of the 2012 Land Cruiser V8, featuring a range of new technologies to improve off-road performance.
