The Toyota Hilux has been given a top award at the 2011 Van Fleet World Honours.

One of the biggest Toyota cars has just taken a top award, being named Best Pick-Up.

The Toyota Hilux was given the award at the 2011 Van Fleet World Honours, after submissions from the Energy Saving Trust, RoadSafe and the Institute for Car Fleet Management.

Van Feet World editor John Kendall said the judges had been impressed by the Hilux's continuous improvement sine it was launched a few years ago, and has now proved it can handle the very toughest conditions.

Managing editor Ross Durkin added that the fleet industry is recovering and purchasing more vehicles after a difficult few years.

"Motor manufacturers are investing in new technologies, especially in the area of alternative fuels, and this continues to be a strong and vibrant industry," he said.

The strengths of the Hlilux have been demonstrated in the past by Top Gear, with presenter James May using one to scale the side of an active volcano.
