SsangYong unveils Tivoli compact off-roader

SsangYong has been selling 4x4s in the UK since 1994, however, it has never made a huge impact on British car buyers. However, the company is hoping that its latest model, the Tivoli SUV, makes a much larger impression.

This new compact off-roader is the latest in a line of SsangYong 4x4s, but puts the focus more on on-road handling than off-road ability. The Tivoli will be available with new 1.6-litre petrol and diesel motors, manual and automatic gearboxes and the choice of two or four-wheel drive.

This all-new model is set to go head to head with popular ‘crossovers’ like the Nissan Juke and larger Nissan Qashqai; aiming to grab buyers’ attention with its bold styling and high driving position. SsangYong claims that its new model offers a spacious and comfortable interior, which is packed with seven airbags and plenty of equipment, along with the option of contrasting roof colours for a more contemporary look.

Kit available on the Tivoli includes an electric driver’s seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, a TomTom sat nav system, a rearview camera, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, automatic headlights and wipers and different driving settings for a more comfortable or sporty drive. CO2 emissions for the two-wheel drive petrol Tivoli stand at 149g/km, warranting annual car tax of £145 under current rules, while the manual two-wheel drive diesel should cost just £20 per year in tax.

The new SsangYong Tivoli goes on sale in in Europe from May onwards, with four-wheel drive versions arriving in July.
