SsangYong has released a new version of its flagship four-wheel drive, the Rexton.

Enhanced for 2016, the new Rexton features a host of upgrades over the previous model to make it more comfortable and economical.

Powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine, the Rexton produces 175bhp. This is sent to the road through either a six-speed or seven-speed automatic gearbox.

Economy is up on the previous model, with a combined figure of 40mpg and an emissions output of 184g/km CO2.

With three models – SE, EX and ELX, there’s a variety of specifications to choose from. Prices start from just £22,995, too.

Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK said: “This is a significant step up for the Rexton. The power upgrade and new seven-speed automatic bring greater refinement, while the car continues to deliver unrivalled levels of equipment for the price, and it backed by a comprehensive five-year limitless mileage warranty for complete piece of mind.”

With a three tonne towing capacity, the Rexton will be popular with caravan users as well as four-wheel-drive enthusiasts. Drivers can also select low range when going off road which splits torque produced by the engine equally between the front and rear axels in order to provide the best possible traction on any surface.

The Rexton is available with either five or seven seats, meaning that it will be ideal for those looking for more passenger capacity.

The range-topping ELX model features leather upholstery, a multi-function steering wheel, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated rear seats and satellite navigation.
