Fans of new and used Saab cars may be delighted to hear that the future of the brand appears to have been secured.

General Motors (GM) has reached a binding agreement with Spyker Cars regarding the sale of the brand, which will be carried forward within a newly created company known as Saab Spyker Automobiles.

"Today's announcement is great news for Saab employees, dealers and suppliers, great news for millions of Saab customers and fans worldwide, and great news for GM," said John Smith, GM vice-president for corporate planning and alliances.

He revealed that the deal is the result of plenty of hard work on the part of GM, Spyker Cars and the Swedish government, ensuring a "sustainable future" for the iconic brand.

Earlier this month, Used Car Expert magazine suggested that used Saab cars were available at bargain prices due to the uncertainty surrounding the brand.
