The Peugeot 107 is one of the best car purchases drivers can make for value, new data shows.

As one of the top ten small cars available to motorists, the Peugeot holds 60.9 per cent of its original list price three years after purchase, according to the used car expert Glass's Guide.

The 107 pips the Toyota Aygo to the top spot by the smallest of margins, with the Japanese car maker's small car retaining 60.2 per cent of its value after three years.

Making up the top five are the Suzuki Swift (59.5 per cent), Citreon C1 (59.2 per cent) and the BMW Mini (58.9 per cent).

Commenting on the new figures, managing editor at Glass's Adrian Rushmore explained that the data shows what "really makes a difference to consumers".

He said: "All models in the top ten are relatively young, having been launched within the last five years.

"Consequently, they are viewed as modern, cutting-edge cars by consumers and retailers, adding to their appeal and bolstering their values."

Director of policy at the Institute of Advanced Motorists Neil Greig recently warned younger drivers not to select the cheapest used car purchase at the expense of safety.
