New grant scheme to reduce cost of Toyota cars

People will soon be able to able to get grants to buy Toyota cars under a new government scheme.

In a bid to get Britain to embrace electric vehicles, the Department for Transport has unveiled a new grant scheme that will cover a quarter of the purchase price.

Transport secretary Phillip Hammond announced that a total fund of around £20 million will be available to UK car buyers taking advantage of the initiative and buying an electric vehicle.

Up to £5,000 can be saved on the nine models, one of which is the new Toyota Prius Plug-in.

Reacting to the news, Toyota UK's managing director Jon Williams said that the announcement demonstrates how advanced the firm's user-friendly plug-in service is.
