Set to debut at the Geneva International Motor Show opening today (March 7th), the new Golf BlueMotion is said to be one of the world's most fuel-efficient family cars, boasting five seats and ample room for both luggage and passengers.

From a technical point of view, the car offers fuel consumption of 88.3 miles to the gallon on the combined cycle and carbon emissions of 85 g/km - a 15 per cent improvement on its predecessor, which emitted 99 g/km (the levels of a standard Golf 1.6-litre TDI). This is due to an improved design which sees the car feature 26 kg less weight in the running gear and 37 kg less in the bodywork.

It has a 50-litre fuel tank with a theoretical range of 970 miles, meaning that people will have to fill up far less frequently than with many other models.

'BlueMotion' is a trade name for Volkswagen models which place a higher emphasis on fuel efficiency.

UK retailers will be taking orders for the model from May with the first deliveries expected in August, although information regarding specifications and pricing will be announced nearer to the launch date.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801552781-ADNFCR
