Motorists should 'steer clear' of part worn tyres

Motorists are placing themselves and others at risk by using part worn tyres.

This is the message from Tyresafe - one of the UK's leading tyre safety organisations - which recently completed a nationwide investigation into the issue.

It found over one-third of the wheels sold had forms of damage or non-compliance that were potentially dangerous.

Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe, noted it is clear the regulations concerning the sale of part worn tyres are not being followed.

"Not only are drivers putting their own lives at risk, but they are also endangering their passengers, which in many cases may be their children and other road users," he added.

Because of this, Mr Jackson observed the purchase of such a product may not be worth the risk.

Chris Mason, managing director of Motor Codes, echoed this sentiment and said drivers need to be in possession of all the facts before deciding to buy tyres. ADNFCR-2576-ID-801349085-ADNFCR
