Mercedes cars enjoy strong January sales

There has been a notable increase in sales of Mercedes cars in recent weeks, according to the latest figures.

Data from the German manufacturer shows that registrations for new Mercedes cars have increased by 20 per cent so far in 2012, compared to the same month last year.

This has been achieved despite the overall sales market being flat, Mercedes claims, and gives the brand a 4.5 per cent share of the UK automotive market.

While Peugeot has reported a boost in sales thanks to increased fleet purchases, Mercedes says it is the private retail sector that is driving its own growth.

Particularly popular were the A-Class family of hatchbacks, as well as C-Class coupes. In the E-Class, saloon registrations were up 34 per cent while those for the estate increased 82 per cent.

"Today's results are a fine way to reward the efforts of our entire sales and service team across the UK," Marcus Breitschwerdt, president and chief executive officer of Mercedes-Benz UK explained.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801287932-ADNFCR
