Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell up for green award

One of the most technologically-advanced Mercedes cars has been nominated for a prestigious efficiency award.

The World Car Awards has named the Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell on a shortlist of six vehicles under consideration for the 2011 World Green Car title.

Also being considered for the prize, which is sponsored by Bridgestone, is the new low-carbon addition to the range of smart cars, the smart electric drive.

The Chevrolet Volt, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Nissan Leaf and BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics Edition are all also on the shortlist.

"We are very pleased and honoured to sponsor the 2011 World Green Car award. The environment is everyone's responsibility," said Ryoji Yamada, general manager of brand management at Bridgestone.

Mercedes was recently given the Best Luxury Car award by What Car? magazine for the firth year in a row.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class beat off competition from major brands such as BMW and Audi.
