Mercedes-AMG GT to arrive in early 2015

The Mercedes-AMG GT supercar has been developed in-house by the German company’s performance wing AMG, which has worked to create a muscular looking, rear-wheel drive rival to the Porsche 911 and Audi R8.

This new supercar will come in GT and even more powerful GT S form. Both models feature a lusty 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 powerhouse under the bonnet, which produces 456bhp in GT form and an even more impressive 503bhp in GT S specification.

The GT S car also receives a performance exhaust system, for an even more visceral driving experience, along with a sophisticated electronic differential for improved traction.

With a long flat bonnet and a stumpy tail, the new AMG GT takes styling cues from a number of sports cars, with the expansive bonnet harking back to its predecessor, the SLS AMG, and the tail emulating the Porsche 911’s classic shape.

The new car may use a significantly downsized engine from the SLS, but the flipside is the possibility of 30mpg fuel economy, according to Mercedes. Despite this, the AMG GT can slice through the air at up to 193mph in GT S form.

As for the interior, this should be just as sporty and luxurious as the SLS with body-hugging bucket seats, a sleek dashboard and plenty of equipment including a media system with an easy to use 8.4-inch media system on the dash.

The AMG GT S arrives in the UK in April 2015 with the standard AMG GT following in August 2015. Prices for these models are expected to sit at around £110,000 for the basic car and £120,000 for the range-topper.
