Lexus announces UK prices for RC F coupe

Lexus has spent several decades producing worthy but bland mass-market machines, but the striking new RC F sports coupe shows that that era is well and truly over.

The Japanese company may be the upmarket wing of Toyota, designed to take on Mercedes, BMW and Audi at their own game, but this machine looks nothing like any Toyota that has gone before it, with sharp creases criss-crossing its exaggerated haunches.

The RC F coupe packs a high-performance 5.0-litre V8 engine under its skin, powerful Brembo brakes, sophisticated Sachs shock absorbers and lightweight 19-inch forged alloy wheels for an immersive driving experience.

This V8 monster will kick out more than 450bhp, making it the most powerful production car to ever come from Lexus. Developed specifically for the RC F this engine is connected to a bespoke eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The RC F is available in standard and performance-focused RC F Carbon trims. All models will have LED headlights with an automatic high beam function, 10 speaker multimedia system with touchscreen controls, a digital radio, sat nav, heated seats and dual-zone climate control. Eight airbags, a reversing camera and front and rear parking sensors are also all included.

The RC F Carbon gains extras including a special rear differential to make the most of the power on tap, along with a lightweight carbon-fibre reinforced plastic roof, bonnet and rear spoiler. The Carbon model also gets Alcantara seats and a premium audio system along with unique wheels while the standard car has electric, ventilated leather seats.

The RC F coupe is available to order now with deliveries starting from January 2015 onwards with prices starting at £59,995 for the standard car and £67,995 for the RC F Carbon.
