Owners of used cars with AA membership have been offered a free vehicle check ahead of the bank holiday.

Last week, the Independent Democratic Union announced that its member AA patrols would go on strike on May 2nd - 3rd, the bank holiday weekend, in a row over pensions entitlement.

While the AA has moved to assure used car owners that it will be able to run a full breakdown service over the strike days, Kwik-Fit is offering free vehicle checks to AA members in a plan to avert any major problems for road users.

Kwik-Fit believes that many breakdowns can be avoided with advance checks on tyre pressures and other components, coolant and oil levels.

David White, customer services director at Kwik-Fit said: "For AA members, or any driver who is unsure about what to look for, Kwik-Fit is offering free pre-holiday travel checks to highlight any potential faults.

"This enables drivers to get problems rectified before heading off for the bank holiday, instead of discovering them when it's too late."
