Hyundai has revealed details about its new IONIQ low-emisisons vehicle, the first in the world to be offered with electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid powertrains.

The IONIQ hybrid features a 1.6 four-cylinder engine, coupled to a 32kW electric motor. This means that together, the hybrid has a combined output of 139bhp and 265Nm of torque. This is driven to the road through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

As well as a technologically advanced powertrain, the IONIQ also features a seven-inch TFT information cluster for the interior, providing drivers with a range of gauges. The IONIQ also offers Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist System and Lane Departure Warning, among a host of other safety features designed to keep driver and passengers safe.

The IONIQ also features both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, meaning the drivers can experience seamless connectivity between their mobile devices and the car.

Jochen Sengpiehl, vice president marketing at Hyundai Motor Europe, said: “IONIQ is another milestone for our brand in Europe, and brings a new approach to electrification and mobility. We are making innovative technology and advanced connectivity more accessible, reflecting the expectations of customers in our digitalised world. Unique in the market, IONIQ will be our new ambassador, setting a new benchmark.”

An incredibly low drag co-efficient means that the IONIQ will achieve the very best economy figures – this is increased further by weight saving through the utilisation of recycled materials. Interior door covers are made from recycled plastic mixed with powdered wood and volcanic stone.
