Ford updates popular C-Max and Grand C-Max people carriers

Ford has spruced up its C-Max five-seater and Grand C-Max seven-seater people carriers, with updated styling inside and out and improved economy in several models.

The most obvious change is the C-Max’s sleeker, more chiselled exterior styling, which brings the car in line with Ford’s newer models. This people carrier also boasts improved comfort and refinement levels, thanks to details like thicker side glass, along with boosted interior storage space and higher quality trim.

The range receives a new 1.5-litre diesel engine, which produces 118bhp – 5bhp up on the previous model – though economy jumps by six per cent too. Power is also up on the 2.0-litre diesel, though emissions drop by a substantial 20 per cent. Also available are 99bhp and 123bhp versions of Ford’s turbocharged Ecoboost 1.0-litre petrol engine.

Ford has updated the C-Max’s interior with fewer knobs and switches thanks to a new eight-inch touchscreen media system which lets you control audio, sat nav, climate control and phone systems with voice commands. Physical buttons, like the air conditioning controls are also now easier to differentiate while on the move, while the cabin receives black satin trim and chrome detailing for a more upmarket feel. Luxuries like a heated steering wheel are also available for the first time.

Helping to increase practicality, the C-Max has redesigned centre console storage, which offers more volume, along with an integrated armrest and improved storage cubbies dotted across the interior. The car also acquires a useful hands free tailgate, which opens when you wave your foot underneath the bumper.

The seven-seater Grand C-Max still features sliding doors and walk-through seat design to provide better access to the rearmost seats. Both models receive new safety kit including crash avoidance technology, along with active parking tech which can steer the car into a suitably sized parking space for you – whether you’re parallel parking or bay parking. Adaptive cruise control, which can maintain a safe distance behind the car in front, is also available.

The updated C-Max models will go on sale across Europe in early 2015.
