Fiat Panda smashes Cape Town to London record

A record for driving the gruelling 10,300 miles from Cape Town to London without stopping was smashed this week by a pair of adventurous British drivers, Philip Young and Paul Brace, in a Fiat Panda.

Having set off on February 1st, the pair drove through 13 countries and two continents in a time of ten days, 13 hours and 28 minutes - beating the previous record by more than a day.

The journey finished in majestic style underneath Marble Arch in central London as their 0.9-litre TwinAir-engined Panda carried them over the finish line. It was built exactly the same as models featuring in showrooms the nation over, apart from a few vital modifications such as an extra fuel tank, two spare wheels, stronger springs and a few other additions.

In order to carry out this epic feat, the couple had to average 1,000 miles each day at an average speed of 40 mph - something the pair labelled as "too easy" to do in a 4x4, hence their vehicle choice.

Mr Young said of the trip: "It has been a remarkable time on the road - exciting and exhilarating - and the Fiat Panda was amazing."ADNFCR-2576-ID-801540934-ADNFCR
