Renault’s budget brand Dacia has reset buyers’ expectations of how cheaply you can buy a new car, with the Sandero hatchback costing as little as £5,995 and the Duster off-roader starting at £9,495.

The Romanian company has now spruced up the Duster, which was only launched in the middle of 2012, with styling and trim updates, though prices are unchanged. The updated “2015 Model Year” cars will receive new grilles, roof bars and upholstery, while the top two trim levels gain the option of new metallic paint colours.

The Duster is still available with a choice of two engines – one petrol and one diesel – along with three trim levels and two – or four-wheel drive. The petrol option is a 104bhp 1.6-litre motor, while the 1.5-litre diesel has 106bhp in two-wheel drive form and 108bhp with four-wheel drive.

The entry-level Duster Access comes with the petrol engine, while Ambiance and Laureate models come with the diesel unit. Prices for the updated models start at under £9,500 for the two-wheel drive Access model and under £11,500 for a four-wheel drive version.

Amongst the changes are a revised chrome front grille and “Duster” branded roof bars and all models gain new seats and upholstery. Top-of-the-range Laureate models get new 16-inch alloy wheels, along with body coloured door handles and dark metal-coloured door mirrors. Five new paint finishes are also available.

Access models feature 16-inch steel wheels, remote locking, electric front windows, four airbags and stability control. Four-wheel drive adds £2,000 to the price and includes a spare wheel – a £150 option on two-wheel drive versions.

Mid-range Ambiance trim adds 16-inch steel wheels, a radio and CD player, along with Bluetooth, front foglights, a height adjustable driver’s seat and a split folding rear seat. Meanwhile, Laureate models include 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, electric mirrors and windows, cruise control and a trip computer.
