Check tyre condition, caravanners advised

UK caravan owners have been advised that before they take to the roads this summer, they should ensure the condition of their tyres is not putting them at risk of a breakdown or accident.

"Out of season storage condition can sometimes have a detrimental effect on motor caravan and trailer caravan tyres," warned independent tyre retailer Micheldever/Protyre.

The company issued a list of tyre safety checks designed to ensure "a trouble-free holiday break".

Motorists were told to check tread depth - which is required by law to be at least 1.6 mm - but also to look out for deterioration to their tyres' sidewalls.

Micheldever/Protyre recommended that regardless of the legal minimum, drivers consider replacing any tyre with a tread depth below 2.5 mm.

The firm also said that irrespective of wear and tear, any tyre exceeding seven years of age should be replaced.ADNFCR-2576-ID-801603573-ADNFCR
