Audi releases updated Q3 compact off-roader

Audi has updated its popular compact off-roader, the Q3, with sharper “coupe like lines” and improved fuel economy across the engine range. Equipment levels have also been boosted.

Helping to differentiate the new car, both bumpers and alloy wheels feature new designs, while SE models now come with full body colour paint finishes, along with new xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights.

S line and S line plus specification levels upgrade to LED headlights and dynamic “scrolling” rear indicators which illuminate from the inside out to show the direction the driver intends to turn.

Under the bonnet, the Q3 has a range of turbocharged engines, with two diesels and three petrol engines on offer. Audi says that these not only boast higher power outputs than before but also offer improved fuel economy and CO2  emissions that have been cut by as much as 17 per cent.

The range-topping RS Q3 has also been updated and gains an extra 30bhp from its 2.5-litre turbocharged engine, taking the total to 335bhp. Thanks to the increase in power, this performance model can sprint from a standstill to 62mph in a rapid 4.8 seconds and keep going all the way to 155mph. An RS exhaust system adds even more drama to the exhaust note from the five cylinder engine, with a switchable flap to boost the volume level when desired.

The other engines offer economy improvements of up to 7mpg, with the most economical Q3 returning 61.4mpg and low enough CO2 emissions to warrant £30 car tax. The updated Q3 is available from later this month with the first cars arriving with owners from the start of 2015.

Prices for the new Audi Q3 start at £25,340 though RS Q3 prices have yet to be confirmed. Don’t expect this rapid machine to be cheap though.
