Audi debuted its new road-going SQ5 TDI in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race over the weekend, alongside the innovative diesel-powered Audi R8 sports prototypes.

The new super-SUV is set to stand out from the crowd as the first TDI-powered S-model in the history of the popular brand, offering a choice blend of 313PS and 39 mpg capability.

Scheduled to open for order in the UK in October, the model will be priced at around £45,000 ahead of its first deliveries during spring 2012.

The SQ5 TDI will be powered by a 3.0-litre BiTDI engine and produces 313PS and 650 Nm of torque between 1,450 and 2,800 rpm channelled through an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission.

In addition, with the help of innovative thermal management, the engine's start-stop system and regulated oil pump economy remains firmly in TDI territory, with up to 39.2mpg possible, according to the results of a combined cycle test. ADNFCR-2576-ID-801386855-ADNFCR
