ABI: Car insurance is not all about price

Drivers of approved used cars have been advised that they should not select and insurance policy simply because it is the cheapest on offer.

According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), a range of factors should be considered before deciding on insurance cover.

As well as the cost of premiums, exclusions, coverage and the size of the excess are also worth considering, claims group spokesperson Malcolm Tarling.

Research by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk recently found that 24 per cent of people aged between 17 and 21 have told a lie when taking out car insurance in order to get a lower premium.

Responding to the findings, Mr Tarlins said that it is a very bad idea to lie or even fail to provide pertinent information to an insurer.

"If they get caught then this non-disclosure could invalidate a claim, depending on the nature of the claim and of the nature of the non-disclosure," he said.
