The Chrysler brand was founded in the mid 1920’s by Walter P Chrysler. Set in Motor City, which is now as famous for being the centre of the worlds traditional automotive industry as it is for being the root for the evolution of the legendary Motown music legacy, Chrysler earned its title as a dogged and hard-boiled motoring company.

Chrysler’s die-hard reputation was set in stone in 1920’s, when the first car prototype; the 124 Chrysler Six, was denied a spot in the New York Auto Show. In what proved to be the turning point for the brand, Chrysler simply parked the prototype in the lobby of the Auto Show to be seen by passing investors and exhibitors. As a result, the car became the first affordable vehicle with 4-wheel hydraulic brakes and a 6-cylinder.

The 1990’s saw the need for financial consolidation and so the Chrysler Corporation merged with Daimler-Benz AG to form Daimler-Chrysler, triggering a return to the UK car market and selling a range of Jeep models.

Moving forward to the 21st Century, Chrysler serves as the parent company for Dodge and Jeep. The Chrysler brand itself is essentially more of a luxury type vehicle, set to compete against Audi, BMW and Mercedes in the UK.
