The Chevrolet brand was Founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William Durant – who only one year earlier was forced out of General Motors. However, as a result of impressive growth and profitability over the next six years, Chevrolet evolved as a strong competitor and was able to buy majority shares in GM and in 1917 Durant became president of General Motors. Like BMW, there has been some debate about the meaning behind the famous Chevy emblem. Legend has it that the inspiration for the logo came from a design Durant saw in a French hotel. However, more recent explanations claim that it is a re-styled design of the Swiss cross in honour of where Louis Chevrolets parents heralded from.The influence of the Chevy brand struck a cord with US car buyers across the decades and by producing cars that provide a balance of value with reliability and quality, it wasn’t long before the Chevy sales out performed those of the Ford Model T.
