Volvo Cars launches Facebook round-the-world challenge

Volvo C30 DRIVe Facebook challenge launched

Volvo Cars is launching an online contest in which people can virtually drive around the world in 80 days.

The idea of the competition is to "drive" the Volvo C30 DRIVe around the world using a network of Facebook contacts.

Participants will drive the C30 DRIVe for 825 miles each - as that it the official distance the vehicle can cover on one tank of fuel - before passing it on to a Facebook friend.

Volvo Cars is pledging to donate €15,000 (£13,500) in the winning team's name to a carbon offset project.

"This challenge ties in with Volvo's new campaign 'There's More To Life Than A Volvo, that's why you drive one' by highlighting how vital our personal connections are in making the world a better place," said Lukas Dohle, head of live communication and social media at Volvo Car Corporation in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The company last week released the first official photographs of the new Volvo S60, which is due to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year.
